Overview

The Ice Maintenance Person is a pro-active and hands-on individual who performs general maintenance to ensure facility upkeep and regular flooding of ice rinks is completed in a timely and safe manner. Their primary responsibilities include ice resurfacing and edging (operating the Ice Resurfacer), janitorial work and general maintenance of facility.

Responsibilities

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional

· Perform maintenance tasks in accordance with local building and fire codes

· Responsible for Ice Maintenance tasks including;

o Ice Resurfacer operation, Edger operation, Ice depth measurement, Ice chopping/spudding, Levelling the Ice, Ice Painting, Dasher Board system repair, Arena Glass replacement and Hockey net refurbishment

· Execute maintenance and repair of facility fixtures and components

· Janitorial duties as assigned. These may include janitorial checklists, vacuuming, auto scrubbing, waxing and buffing in line with established floor care procedures

· Ensure that entrances, grounds, and parking lot are kept clean, clear and safe including:

o Property & grounds cleanup , Grass cutting and edging and Seasonal snow and debris removal

· Perform minor maintenance on facility and ice maintenance equipment including:

o Ice Resurfacer safety check, clean and wax

o Safe blade changes and grease machine as needed

· Maintain appropriate checklists, records and reports including Ice Resurfacer sign out / safety check

When requested by Manager, Ice Maintenance Person may also:

· Maintain and monitor the ice refrigeration plant regularly and take appropriate actions as necessary for safe operation, maintaining logs with readings (as required) and keeping appropriate notes on the following:

o Record ice plant operational readings

o Maintain cleanliness and repaint as required

o Perform minor refrigeration plant / HVAC maintenance as assigned by Manager

Health, Safety and Environment

· Adhere to all Risk Management policies and procedures

· Ensure a safe working environment and a safe customer environment for the facility as detailed in the Risk Management checklist and by adhering to and maintaining:

o Safe work practices such as those relating to lifting and carrying

o Elimination of Slip, Trip and Fall hazards

o Appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

· Report any unsafe Health & Safety conditions

· Is trained/certified in:

o "HazCom and GHS" and "Workplace Violence"

o Use of equipment and supplies as required including Elevated Work Platform and Propane Handling consistent with manufacturer guidelines and best practice

· Ensure the proper use and safe storage of hazardous materials, tools, equipment and machinery

· Is aware and understands implementation of the Facility Emergency Plan, Incident Reports and knows the location and how to use the First Aid Kit, Eye Wash Station and Defibrillator

· Ensure consideration for best practices in energy use management and environmental impact are employed

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

· Valid driver’s license (preferred)

· Completion of any of the following US Ice Rink Association (formerly STAR) training is preferred

o Basic Arena Refrigeration (BAR),

o Ice Making & Painting Technologies (IMPT), or

o Ice Maintenance and Equipment Operation (IMEO)

ABILITIES, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE

· Previous experience, training and operation of ice resurfacing equipment

· Willingness and ability to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends)

· Approachable and team orientated with great communication skills

· Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude (preferred)

· Trade or Janitorial experience is an advantage

· Organised, self-motivated and proactive
